Hello and welcome to K & A Farms website.

I am Kevin Hairston from Henagar, Alabama. I was born and raised here and worked on a large farm that consisted of cattle, horses, chickens, and hogs. I am 35 years old and have been married for 15 years to my wonderful wife, April. We have three gorgeous children named Zac, Kortney, and Haylie. We currently have six AQHA horses and one unregistered horse of our own here at K & A Farms.  We are forever selling, trading or buying horses around here, so the numbers are always changing.  For the most part the above number will always stay the same.

To Tell you a little about my experience with livestock, I would need to write a biography and of course we all do not have time for that now. But I will tell you that I have 25++ years under my belt with Quarter horses and cattle. My experience consists of breaking, training, riding horses and farrier work but is not limited to this. I have shod horses for the public for over 20 years now.  At one point in my farrier business, I had over 300 head of horses that I was putting shoes on.  That was when I did farrier work full time.  Now I also work on our local street department in Henagar and I also volunteer on our fire department.

My current activities with horses are team roping and team penning. I am also currently training several horses for different people to their liking. My technique of training is very similiar to Clinton Anderson with a few change ups here and there. For the most part, it is all about gaining the trust and respect of the horse. I also want them to respect me the same way they want me to respect them though. My goal in life is to become a large animal veterinarian specializing in Equine. April tries to push me towards this goal but I just hate school.

April, age 34, is a graduate of Snead State Community College with a license in practical nursing. She has the desire to work in Hospice. I admire her courage for going back to school after all these years of being a stay at home mom and housewife. She also free-lance web designs.  April is originally from Fort Payne, Alabama.

Zac, whom is in the 8th grade this year, is very diverse in sports. He loves all kinds of ball especially baseball and football. He stands 5'10.5" and weighs in at 245lbs. The position he plays in baseball is pitcher and third base. You can guess what he plays in football, yeppers you guessed it, Lineman. He will be starting spring training soon.  He is an awesome helper around the farm, working with the horses and doing chores as well.

Kortney is our second born. At age 12, she is an all round animal lover and she loves to cook. I can see her becoming a vet, but of course this must be her goal not mine.  Kortney is now currently training our chocolate lab to jump barrels and pretty much is succeeding at it. Our lab's name is Emmaette, Emma for short. Update: Sadly, Emma died in 2005.  New Update:  Kortney just purchased with her own money, a 7 year old Pomeranian named Gidget.  She is sable in color and is just a sweetie.  Now this gives Kortney another reason to be able to train something, even though Gidget is set in her ways pretty much but she allows Kortney to do whatever.

About Haylie, she will soon be 9 years old. She is definitely my blood. She has cowgirl wrote all over her.  Basically she is my shadow day after day and I love it.  She showed my gelding Zan Peppy Bull in 4-H Walk-Trot and 17 yrs & under Walk-Trot in which she placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this past summer.  She will be showing again next year and will hopefully qualify for state.  She fell two shows short of going this year.

Well, after telling you all about my family, I have a mini bio started. So I will stop for now and let my lovely wife's fingers rest a bit (being how she is the typer of the family).
